Add a Blogarithm form or button to your LiveJournal blog:
If you use LiveJournal, adding the Blogarithm form to your blog involves creating and editing a Style, and then applying it to your blog. The following steps show how to do that. These instructions only work if you are a paid user of LiveJournal. The free system does not have enough flexibility to add a Blogarithm form.
- Go to http://www.livejournal.com/login.bml and log in:
- This takes you to a page announcing you have logged in. Scroll down to the bottom and click on the link to "Site Map".
- Click on "Modify your S1 Settings." Near the top of that page is a section called "Page Layout Style." It has several dropdowns for picking styles for the different views of your journal. These instructions show how to modify the "Most Recent Events" view. (Most Recent Events is the main page of your blog.) Note the currently active style. (In this example, "Clean and Simple".).
- We are now going to create a user-defined style based on your current style. If you are already using your own style, you won't need to create a new one, but you will need to edit the one you are using. Go to the Site Map and select "Edit Styles". Skip down to step 9.
- Go back to the Site Map, and select "Create a Style".
- You are going to create a new style based on the one you use currently (this will ensure the look of your site doesn't change). On the Create Style page, select "Most Recent Events." From the dropdown, pick the style that matches the one you noted in step 3 above. ("Clean and Simple" in our example).
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click "Create Style".
- Your style has been created. You should be on a page with the message "Your style has been created and has been temporarily named <name>-lastn-new. You can begin editing it by pressing the button below." (<name> is the name of your blog). Now you can edit the style to add the form. Click the "Edit Style" button.
- LiveJournal builds your blog based on the value of a number of style variables. You are going to change the LASTN_PAGE variable to include the HTML for the Blogarithm Form. Scroll down to the LASTN_PAGE section (near the bottom).
- For the "Clean and Simple" style, there is a left hand column. These instructions show how to put the Blogarithm form at the top of that column. If you are using a different style, you may need to hunt around a bit to find exactly the write place to put the HTML.
- Scroll down near the bottom of the page and click "Save Style."
- Now you have a style which will display the Blogarithm form. The final step is to make the new style active for your blog. Go to the Site Map and select "Modify your S1 Settings."
- You are back at the "Modify Journal" page. Change the Page Layout Style for Most Recent Events to be the style you just created (it should be the last element in the dropdown).
- Scroll down to the bottom and click "Save Changes".
- You're done! Your blog now shows the Blogarithm form:

These instructions show you how to use Style System 1 to modify your blog. All the links you need are in the Site Map in the right hand column. If you need to find these links, you can return to the Site Map with the link on the bottom of any page.

How do you know if you already have a user style? Your available style will look something like this:

After the table that describes various ways you can customize LASTN_PAGE, there is a large text box. This is where you will put the Blogarithm code. (If you are using a style other than Clean and Simple, your textbox won't look quite like the picture below.)

Scroll down until you find the line <tr><td id="navbar" valign="top"> (near the bottom).

Insert the HTML for the Blogarithm form after this line, like so:
